A patio area can add a lot of functionality and style to your property. However, it is essential that you maintain your concrete patio over time. It is likely that a crack in your concrete can occur. You need to be sure that yourepair your cracked concrete before winter to make sure that the crack does not worsen. Freezing water will make the crack expand, and this could repeat numerous times during the winter season. This means that cracked concrete repairs need to be made before cold weather sets in. It is important that you are aware of a few helpful tips that are designed to make the cracked concrete repair process more manageable.

Caulk

You have different options, such as concrete or a polymer resin, when you are looking to fill in a crack within your concrete patio slab, but the best option is often caulk. There are sanded acrylic latex caulks that are specifically designed for concrete crack repairs, and they look just like concrete but are much easier to use. This means that if you are looking to speed up the repair process and the amount of time that you have invested in this project, you should choose to use a caulk. This is only an option if the crack that you are dealing with is smaller in size. This means that if you are dealing with a very large crack in the concrete, you will only be able to use concrete to fill in the gap.

Backer Rod

When you are going to use caulk to fill in the crack on the surface of your concrete patio, it is suggested that you also use a backer rod. This is relatively inexpensive, and it will make the caulk more effective at filling in the crack. If you have a deep crack, the backer rod is essential. All you have to do when using backer rod is to press it into the widest sections of the crack. You can then press it into the crack deeper using a tool like a screwdriver. You want to make sure that you get the backer rod as deep as it will go into the crack. Once you have the backer rod in place, you can then use the caulk to fill in the rest of the crack to the surface. The best part about the caulk that you use is that it is able to be painted over, which means that you can paint over it to match the colour of your patio, and the crack will be undetectable to the naked eye.
